Balcones 1 Classic Edition Texas Single Malt American Whisky 700mL
Balcones 1 Classic Edition Texas Single Malt American Whisky Tasting notes: [2013 batch tasted] Resembles bright polished copper in the glass. The nose is noticeably less sweet than the rest of the Balcones on offer and comes across quite Bourbon like with its strong vanillin oak, water biscuit opening whiff. There are hints of orange zest and confectionary (gobstopper) here too. The palate unfolds in similar fashion offering fine tuned, bitter sweet flavours of caramel, drying oak and a faintly oily texture, followed by a drier still, gently tannic aftertaste with hints of vanilla and confectionary persisting. 53% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews… [Batch SM 20-1 tasted 2020] Dried leaves, toasted nuts, and plenty of fresh oak emerge from this big, broad-shouldered malt that ably handles all the new oak that’s been thrown at it, with the solid wood structure propping up pretty orange pekoe tea, buttered toast, biscuity malt, caramel, and chocolate flavors. Finishes with dark toasted spices and anise. A distinctly oaky, American interpretation of single malt that is both bold and balanced. (5,000 bottles) 89 points – whiskyadvocate.com
“Everything’s bigger in Texas, and that holds true for this whisky. The wood influences give it a big Yosemite Sam entrance before introducing the caramel, dried fruit, ripe golden fruits, cashew nuts and sweet spice. Finishes with a deep malty flavor.” – Amanda Schuster, Distiller
