After maturing for 10 years in Ireland in American Oak casks, the Irish single malt is shipped over to Scotland where it spends a few short months in casks that had previously matured heavily peated Islay malt (Laphroaig). These casks, though emptied, still retained a huge smokiness which is carried over.
The third release of Berry Bros & Rudd's Craoi Na Mona Irish single malt, this was aged in American oak for around 10 years before being finished in peated-whisky casks for a few months. This is lightly sweet with notes of earthy smoke, orange and peach. tasting note sourced from www.tastings.com
